Sensex opens higher by 71 points

MUMBAI, Mar 5: The 30 scrip index of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) surged further today by 71 points to 21,280.36 in the opening trade on buying in Bankex, Capital Goods, Power, Oil and Gas and Technology stocks.
The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) rose by 31 points to 6,328.45.
The sensex recorded intra day high and low at 21,333.20 and 21,207.26 points respectively.
The equity market remained firm for another day today following gains in Tata Steel, ICICI Bank, Maruti Suzuki, ONGC and Coal India.
However, selling in Tata Power, Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank and M&M capped from further rise, brokers said. The gainers were Tata Steel by 1.56 pc to Rs 357.25, ICICI Bank by 1.55 pc to Rs 1,084.90, Maruti Suzuki by 1.48 pc to Rs 1,622,ONGC by 1.42 pc to Rs 300 and Coal India by 1.15 pc to Rs 250.05.
The losers were Tata Power by 2.14 pc to Rs 77.70, Bharti Airtel by 1.53 pc to Rs 283.20, HDFC Bank by 0.81 pc to Rs 665 and Mahindra and Mahindra by 0.81 pc to Rs 948. (AGENCIES)
