BHOPAL: Expressing concern over the Women’s Reservation Bill’s non-passage in Parliament, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu today said that all political parties need to deliberate seriously over it.
Mr Naidu was addressing the state-level conference and training programme of women self-help groups as the chief guest held at the Jamboree Maidan here.
“Though no party is opposing it, the Bill is not moving forward,” he said. While personally supporting the Bill, Mr Naidu said that efforts are being made to pass it in Parliament. All parties should arrive at a consensus on it.
Supporting women’s reservation in urban bodies, he said that some people feel that husbands are calling the shots instead of the woman sarpanch at certain places.
“Change would happen in due course. We would see ‘pati ki gati (the fate of husband)’,” said the Vice-President.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, state BJP chief president Nand Kumar Singh Chauhan, state ministers Gopal Bhargava, Archana Chitnis, Rampal Singh, Lal Singh Arya, Vishwas Sarang, Surendra Patwa, Bhopal Mayor Alok Sharma and MP Alok Sanjar were present. (AGENCIES)
