*Inter-state narco-smugglers held with bhukki

JAMMU, Dec 29: Police arrested a servant for stealing Rs 6 lakh from his employer’s shop in Kanak Mandi area. However, police also arrested two inter-state narcotic smugglers from Bus Stand area.
This was stated by Superintendent of Police (SP) City Shiv Kumar Singh Chouhan during a press conference this afternoon at City police station.
He stated that yesterday at around 4 pm, a written complaint was lodged by Atul Mahajan, son of Shakti Mahajan, a resident of Bharat Nagar, Talab Tillo with Police Station City that some thieves barged into his shop at Kanak Mandi from window and decamped with Rs 6.10 lakh cash, which he had kept in the locker.
Acting over the complaint, a case under FIR Number 78/15 under Section 457 and 380 RPC was registered with police station and investigation started, he added.
He informed that during the course of investigation, the police team visited the spot and after gathering clues conducted raids in Panjgarian area of tehsil Akhnoor and nabbed the servant of Atul Mahajan.
“The accused has been identified as Bachan Lal, son of Harbans Lal, a resident of Panjgarian area of tehsil Akhnoor. He was employed in the shop around one month back”, he added.
During questioning, the accused broke down and confessed to having committed the crime. On his disclosure, the stolen amount was also recovered, Mr Chouhan maintained.
Meanwhile, Bus Stand police also arrested two inter-state narcotic smugglers along with 60 kilograms of poppy straw (bhukki).
Mr Chouhan stated that based on a tip-off, a nakka was laid at Bus Stand and two persons were intercepted, adding that during frisking, 60 kg poppy straw (bhukki) hidden in the bedding carry bags was recovered from their possession and both were arrested on the spot.
The accused have been identified as Shera, son of Baj Singh and Sewa Singh, son of Panju Ram, both residents of district Taran Taran, Punjab.
The duo had brought the consignment from Srinagar and were taking it to their native place to sell it among the masses.
A case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against them at Bus Stand police station and investigation started.
Police teams led by SHO City police station Inspector Shakti Sharma and assisted by SI Uttam Raj arrested the thief, whereas police team headed by SHO Bus Stand police station Inspector Paramjit Singh arrested the narcotic smugglers under the supervision of SDPO City Perbeet Singh Parihar, SP City Shiv Kumar Singh Chouhan and SSP Jammu Uttam Chand.
