Set up centre for promotions of Sharda script: Governor

SRINAGAR, Aug 1 : N. N. Vohra, Governor, released a colourful primer in Sharda script titled “Sharda Gyan” at a function held at the Zeshta Devi Temple Complex here this evening. “Sharda Gyan” has been brought out by Pt. Prem Nath Shastri Sanskratik Shodh Sansthan.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor observed that the publication of this primer is a very welcome step towards the revival of the ancient Sharda script which is a mother of many languages. He added that this even also marks the revival of a centuries old cultural heritage.
The Governor suggested the setting up of a Centre at Jammu for the collection, consolidation, classification and translation of literature in Sharda script and, besides, research projects for the revival and promotion of this language in a meaningful manner. He said that if a small pocket of land becomes available ways and means would be found for supporting the construction of the building.
The Governor, while congratulating Pt. Omkar Nath Shastri, Chairman, Pt. Prem Nath Shastri Sanskratik Shodh Sansthan, for brining out the first part of “Sharda Gyan”, announced a support of Rs. 70,000 for publication of the second part of this primer. This amount is related to the Primer (Part I) being priced Rs 70/ per copy.
The Governor paid tributes to Pt. Prem Nath ji Shastri on his 13th Nirwan Divas.
Earlier, the Governor lit the ceremonial lamp to mark the commencement of the function. He was honoured on this occasion by presenting a turban to him by Pt. Omkar Nath Shastri, Chairman, Pt. Prem Nath Shastri Sanskratik Shodh Sansthan.
Speaking on the occasion, Vijay Bakaya, MLC said that publication of this primer is a significant step towards the revival and promotion of Sharda script, adding that the upcoming generation should be made aware of this language. He paid glowing tributes to Pt. Prem Nath Shastri on his Nirwan Divas.
Bhushan Lal Bhat, former MLC, speaking on the occasion, appreciated the efforts of the Sansthan for its initiatives for the promotion of cultural heritage of the Kashmiri Pandit community.
In his welcome address, Pt. Omkar Nath Shastri, Chairman of the Sansthan, threw light on the history and evolution of Sharda script and aims and objects of bringing out “Sharda Gyan” by the Sansthan.
Prof. Satish Raina was among a large number of prominent persons of the Kashmiri Pandit community present on the occasion.
