SRINAGAR, May 24: BJP Mahila Morcha State president, Priya Sethi, on the last day of her team’s visit to Kashmir held meetings with the Morcha activists at Munshi Bagh, Srinagar, Noorabad, Kulgam and Anantnag.
She held direct interactions with the women activists to assess the problems being faced by them.
Priya Sethi was informed by the women activists of the party of the problems being faced by women folk in the Valley. They informed her that price hike, unemployment and non implementation of the social welfare schemes for the needy and deserving women, delay in verification related to renewal of ration cards, cut in quota of ration and kerosene oil.
Priya Sethi while addressing the meeting at Anantnag criticized the Social Welfare Minister, Sakina Ittoo for not showing any concern towards the plight of women especially widows who are running from pillar to post for getting women pension in the State.
She said the widow pension files are piling up and there is lot of resentment among them against the same.
Mrs Sethi said that women in the State are subjected to discrimination, violence and made to suffer on account of the indifferent attitude towards them by the Government which makes tall claims of equality.
She said the Government should shed its policy of discrimination on the basis of gender and extend the benefits of the welfare schemes in an impartial and uniform manner.
Mrs Sethi was accompanied by Anuradha Charak, Anju Dogra, Saroj Gupta, Haleema Begum, Khatoon Muzaffar, Irfani, Kulsum, Rafiqa and Dilshada.
