JAMMU, Mar 31: Nagrota, Nowabad, Bishnah, Akhnoor and Gangyal Police arrested seven drug peddlers along with contraband.
As per police sources, teams from Police Station Nagrota led by SHO Inspector Mohammad Shoket, Police Station Nowabad headed by SHO Inspector Deepak Jasrotia, Police Station Bishnah led by SHO Inspector Anil Choudhary, Police Station Akhnoor led by SHO Inspector Ravi Singh Parihar and assisted by PSI Baljeet Singh and Police Station Gangyal led by SHO Inspector RS Choudhary arrested seven drug peddlers along with contraband.
The arrested persons were identified as Narinder Singh, son of Harbhajan Singh, Inder Singh, son of Gian Singh of Tehsil Marh District Jammu, Narinder Gupta alias Kala, son of Ram Lal Gupta of Wazarat Road Jammu, Sunny Kumar, son of Baldev Raj of Kothey Bulanday and Rakesh Kumar alias Ladi, son of Girdhari Lal of Bishnah District Jammu.
It is pertinent to mention that Rakesh Kumar was already involved in many FIRs and is a notorious inter-state drug peddler.
Meanwhile, a team from Police Station Akhnoor arrested a notorious drug peddler, who was evading his arrest after recovery of poppy straw from a Maruti car bearing registration number JK02AE-5732 at Mund Tehsil Maira Mandrian District Jammu during the intervening night of March 28 and 29 this year. The accused has been identified as Babu Ram, son of Mangu Ram of Ward Number 2 Deta Pabar District Reasi.
In another incident, a team from Police Station Gangyal arrested a man along with cannabis. The arrested person has been identified as Govind Mishra, a resident of Greater Jammu.
A total of 140 kilograms poppy straw, 80 grams of heroin and 570 grams cannabis have been recovered from the arrested drug peddlers.
Cases under FIR Numbers 122/2021, 62/2021, 64/2021, 86/2021 and 44/2021 have been registered at Nagrota, Nowabad, Bishnah, Akhnoor and Gangyal Police Stations respectively.
Further investigation into the cases is going on.
