Seven smugglers held, 116 bovines rescued

RAMBAN, May 18: Police here today arrested seven bovine smugglers, registered eight FIRs, seized eight vehicles involved in the crime and rescued 116 bovines under the supervision of SSP Ramban, Anuj Kumar.
Cops from Police Station Batote intercepted three vehicles and during their checking found 54 bovines. Three persons were arrested in this regard.
In another instance, cops from Police Station Ramban intercepted a vehicle and during its checking found 12 bovines loaded in it but the accused person managed to escape.
In another instance, cops from Police Station Ramsoo intercepted two vehicles and while checking them found 15 bovines loaded and two persons were arrested.
In another instance, cops from Police Station Banihal intercepted two vehicles and during their checking found 35 bovines loaded in them. Two persons were arrested in this regard.
Police said that all the 116 animals were loaded in a cruel manner and were being transported illegally towards Kashmir.
Subsequently, FIR Nos. 72/2024, 73/2024 and 74/2024 were registered at Police Station Batote, FIR No. 108/2024 at Police Station Ramban, FIR No. 66/2024 and 67/2024 at Police Station Ramsoo and FIR Nos. 76/2024 and 78/2024 at Police Station Banihal under Sections 188 IPC and under Section 11 of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Investigation in these cases was started.
