Several deputations call on Governor

JAMMU, Apr 6: Jugal Kishore Sharma, MLC, called on N.N. Vohra, Governor here at the Raj Bhavan today.
Mr. Sharma apprised the Governor that the tax collected at Ban Toll Plaza, situated on Jammu- Udhampur National Highway, from persons undertaking pilgrimage to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine would have several adverse consequences; the Katra Municipal Corporation needs large scale funding for ensuring sanitation in and around Katra town, apart from provision of the basic civic facilities;  need for introduction of reservation counter, other facilities and a large number of direct trains which can take pilgrims to Katra.
The Governor assured Mr. Sharma that his demands would receive due consideration.
A deputation of SKUAST- Teaching Association Jammu (SKUAST-TAJ), led by its President Dr. Vikas Sharma also called on Governor.
The deputation apprised the Governor about demands relating to the opening of new Faculties and Divisions in the University including the College of Dairy Technology, College of Agricultural Engineering etc.; grant of a special financial package for the early completion of the University Auditorium at Chatha campus; early restoration of Varsity’s infrastructure which was destroyed by the September-2014 floods and certain other demands relating to the welfare of the teaching community and University’s overall development.
The Governor assured the delegation that their demands would be addressed and advised the SKUAST-TAJ to continuously strive for achieving excellence in teaching and research, and ensure dissemination of latest technologies among the farmers to enable them to improve productivity in agriculture and its allied sectors.
A deputation of Sanatan Dharam (S.D.) Sabha School, Rehari, Jammu, led by its President, Prof. B.R Sharma, called on Mr. Vohra. Among others the deputation comprised Ms. Kavita, Principal of the School and Pavitar Singh, Advisor S. D. Sabha.
The members of the deputation apprised the Governor about the objectives and functioning of the School and appealed to him for financial support for strengthening the infrastructure of the school.
The Governor assured support to the deputation for furthering the cause of school education.
Balwinder Singh, an RTI activist also called on Mr. Vohra and urged him for the appointment of reputed persons of high integrity to the State Accountability Commission so as to promote transparency and accountability in the administrative set up.
Mr. Singh also briefed the Governor about the significant role of the RTI Act in addressing public grievances and promoting public welfare.
The Governor observed that RTI activists must continue their activism with zeal and honesty.
