JAMMU, Oct 7: On the eve of Dussehra, Food Safety wing of Food & Drugs Administration (FDA) Jammu conducted surprise check of various food establishments in Jammu city and adjoining areas and challaned various food establishments for violation of rules of Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA), 2006.
The inspection was conducted by a Food Safety team headed by Dr Parvesh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety, Municipal Limits, Jammu in the market of Parade Chowk, Gandhi Nagar and Apsara Road, which are the main venues for Dussehra celebration in Jammu City.
The motive of surprise inspection was to identify the violators and to ensure that fresh and quality food made of good quality ingredients in clean and hygienic conditions is being served to the citizens. During the inspection, several food business operators who were found violating FSSA rules were challaned and warned by the Food Safety team to strictly follow the rules.
The team also made the food business operators aware regarding FSSA rules and asked them to use good quality of raw material including oil/ghee for preparing food like snacks and sweets. The food business operators were also asked not to use ‘used oil/sugar syrup’ for making sweets.
An awareness camp for food handlers were also organized at Apsara Road market where they were asked to maintain hygiene at all levels and follow FSSA 2006 rules and regulations. They were asked to keep their infrastructure, particularly cooking, processing, washing and serving areas neat and clean. The food business operators were also asked to maintain proper drainage system in their premises in order to prevent the cross contamination and minimize the infections.
