JAMMU, Oct 17: Various organizations of students and individuals today paid their tributes to the student martyrs of 1966, who had sacrificed their lives for the Jammu cause.
A number of NPSU volunteers and Young Panthers, led by NPP leader Prof Bhim Singh, Harshdev Singh, Balwant Singh Mankotia, Yashpal Kundal and others, today visited the Shahidi Sthal (Martyrs Memorial) at GGM Science College and paid their tributes.
On the occasion, Prof Bhim Singh also administered a pledge to the students for a continuous struggle to get Jammu State.
P K Ganju, Bansi Lal Sharma Advocate, Anita Thakur, Jagdev Singh. Paramjit Singh Marshall and Thakur Virender Singh were among those who paid their tributes.
Prof Bhim Singh, Harshdev Singh, Balwant Singh Mankotia, Yashpal Kundal and Thakur Virender Singh also addressed the students with assurances that they shall work for the establishment of the society with Samta, Samanta, Bhaichara ensuring justice and right to every persons.
Activists of National Secular Forum also assembled at Shahidi Sthal and paid their rich tributes to the student martyrs amidst chanting of slogans like ‘Amar Rahe- Amar Rahe, Hamare Shaheed Amar Rahe.’ Bharat Mata Ki Jai-Vande- Matram’, etc.
Sukhdev Singh, who was leading the NSF activists, said that the martyrs will always remain in hearts of the people, particularly students, as biggest source of encouragement and inspiration in raising voice against the discrimination with Jammu region.
For paying tributes to the student martyrs, activists of Students Socialist Federation took out a peace march from Jammu University to GGM Science College. Students from different colleges as well as JU, took part in the peace march, which was flagged off by SP (HQ), S Randhir Singh.
At GGM Science College, the SSF activists garlanded the Shahidi Sthal and observed a two-minute silence in memory of the student martyrs.
The gathering was also addressed by SSF leader Rakesh Charak, Harpreet Singh, Simanjit Singh Wazir and others.
Besides the student organizations, several individuals also visited the Shahidi Sthal and paid tributes to the martyrs.
Dr D N Mehta, one of the protesters of 1966, today visited the JJSF activists, who are observing three-day fast at the Shahidi Sthal as homage to the martyrs.
The JJSF fast by Sukhbinder Singh, Clinton Sharma, Sandeep Singh and Vishal Jamwal will conclude tomorrow with a Havan and Puran Ahuti.
Shakti Uppal, accompanied by Shakti Sharma, Varinder Jamwal and Sandeep Bajwa, also visited the memorial site and paid floral tributes to the student martyrs.
