JAMMU, Feb 21: A large number of State Government employees from various departments and Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) under the banner of State Government Employees Joint Action Committee held protest rally outside Raj Bhawan at Panjtirthi here today.
The protest programme was organized to project pending demands of the State employees and also render support to the Central Trade Unions already on strike.
A large number of State Government employees under the leadership of Sushil Sudan, Pardeep Sharma, Subash Verma, Suresh Sharma, Parshotam Singh Chib, Yash Pal Sharma, Prem Singh Bawa, Darshgan Mangotra, K C Dubey, Swarn Singh, Kapil Bakshi and others assembled at Ranbir Government Press at Ambphalla and then from there moved towards Governor House at Panjtirthi, near Radio Station Chowk at around 11.30 am. They were carrying banners and placards in hands projecting their demands.
The agitating employees were shouting slogans against UPA Government and NC- led Coalition Government in the State for their anti-working class policies. They alleged that in view of the increasing prices of essential commodities and all other articles, the life of common man has become miserable and working class has been badly hit due to it. The Government has failed to address the pending issues of the employees. They accorded full support to the Central Government employees’ bodies.
While addressing the rally outside Raj Bhawan, the senior trade unionists and members of SGEJAC including Mr Sudan, Mr Chib, Suresh Sharma, Mr Pardeep and other leaders lambasted the State Government for not considering pending demands of the employees. Strong resentment was brewing among the employees for the indifferent attitude of the Government. The employees are demanding pending arrears in cash, regularization of daily wagers, consolidated, contractual and ad hoc employees, removal of pay anomalies, review of budgetary support to PSUs enhancement of Medical allowance to Rs 1000 per month, removal of restrictions on withdrawal of GP Fund and early decision on retirement age of employees, said the leaders.
The leadership declared Secretariat `Gherao’ programme on March 6 at Jammu. The employees rally will start from Press Club Jammu at 11.30 am and then move towards Civil Secretariat on the proposed day. They appealed for greater unity among the employees and their leadership. They alleged that present regime was responsible for the victimization of the State employees. The Government must realize that genuine and justified issues of the employees should be settled without any more delay.
