JAMMU, Dec 8: A deputation of Sikh delegates led by Sardar T S Wazir, president, State Gurdwara Parbandhak Board, met the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and presented her a charter containing their demands.
They demanded that Sikhs of Jammu and Kashmir be declared as minority and setting up of Minority Commission on the lines of NCM set up by Union Government; Settlement of refugee issue as per report of Cabinet Sub Committee viz payment of Rs 30 lakh to each family, reservation in professional colleges outside J&K, reserevation in jobs in paramilitary forces, Army and other central Government services for wards of DPs, inclusion of left over DP families for assistance and granting State Subjects to PoJK refugees living outside J&K; Appointment of Punjabi teachers in schools; Installation of statue of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur at Kunjwani Chowk; Establishment of Chair of Guru Gobind Singh Ji at Jammu University.
They also demanded construction of an auditorium in the name of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the land for which could be provide by State Gurdwara Parbandhak Board; and Employment package for Sikhs in Kashmir to ensure social and economic security of Sikhs living in the Valley.
The memorandum was submitted with the hope that genuine and legitimate demands contained in that would be given due consideration and the community may not feel neglected and discriminated against.
