Srinagar Nov 22: Srinagar-Leh National Highway connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir was closed for traffic to avoid any incident following fresh snowfall and slippery road conditions.
The Divisional Commiss-ioner Kashmir ordered that Sonamarg-Gumri (Zojila pass) will remain closed for vehicular traffic of all types from November 22 till further notice.
“In view of report received from the Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal dated 21-11-2018 regarding bad weather and slippery conditions of road surface on Zojila thereby endangering the life and property, it is hereby informed for information of general public that Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road (Zojila pass) will remain closed for all types of vehicular traffic with effect from November 22 till further orders,” read the order.
And the Meteorological Department today forecast rain and snow till tomorrow in Jammu and Kashmir as an overcast sky helped marginal improvement in night temperatures today.
“Rain in the plains and snow in the higher reaches is likely to occur during the next 24 hours,” a MeT Department official said.
The minimum temperature was 1.8 degree Celsius in Srinagar while it was minus 3 degree Celsius in both Pahalgam and Gulmarg. Kargil was at minus 7.8 degrees Celsius, the coldest, followed by Leh at minus 6.4 degree Celsius.
And Divisional Commiss-ioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan today issued a weather advisory across the Valley
He has asked the Deputy Commissioners of Kashmir Division including Leh and Kargil to advise people not to venture in avalanche prone areas during this period. “The concerned Deputy Commissioners are directed to activate their control rooms and ensure that the snow clearance equipment is placed at proper places for snow clearance in respect of their districts as per the snow clearance plan”, read the advisory.
