Shabir assures adequate power supply during winter

SRINAGAR, Nov 14: Minister of State for Power and Forests, Shabir Ahmad Khan while presiding over a provincial officers meeting here today said that Government is committed to improve power supply particularly during ensuing winter season. He said that directions have been issued to PDD for streamlining power distribution system in the Valley.
The Minister was informed that presently the consumers are being provided 1000 to 1100 MW electricity everyday which is 10 percent more than the supply of last year in the Valley. In this connection the department has framed curtailment schedule which is being strictly implemented in letter and spirit.
It was further informed that during the current fiscal upto the month of October Rs. 290 crore were realized as electric tariff from the consumers which is 38 percent more as compared to last year besides 4000 damaged electric transformers were repaired at different workshops so that the concerned areas would not suffer on account of power supply.
The Minister urged upon the officers in bringing a change in the power supply system so that the consumers in length and breadth of the State are provided adequate power supply. He directed the officers of PDD to identify the areas where electric meters have not been installed so that the electric meters are installed in these areas to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
Later, the Minister inspected Data Centre, Bemina which is under construction at a cost of Rs. 8.50 crore out of which Rs. 6 crore have been spent on the project till date. The centre on its completion is expected to provide information about meter reading, load consuming and number of damaged electric transformers.
The meeting was among others attended by Secretary Technical Systems, PDD, Asgar Ali, Chief Engineer Systems and Operations, Ayaz Gul, Chief Engineer Electricity and Maintenance, Muzaffar Ahmad Mattoo besides others officers of PDD.
