JAMMU, Aug 22: A two-day workshop on development of strategic approach to Reproductive Maternal New Born Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCH), a Sub-Plan for High Priority Districts of Jammu and Kashmir, was organized by Department of Health and Family Welfare in collaboration with National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Norway India Partnership Initiative (NIPI) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) here on Thursday.
Minister of State for Health, Shabir Ahmed Khan inaugurated the workshop.
Director Health Services, Jammu, B.S. Pathania, Mission Director Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Dr. Yash Pal Sharma, Deputy Director (HQ), Health Services, Dr. Baldev Sharma, Director NIPI, Dr. Kali Prasad Pappu, Chief Medical Officer, Jammu, Dr. Javed Rana, Programme Managers from Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Poonch, Ramban, Leh besides CMOs, BMOs and senior functionaries of the department were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Shabir said that this is for the first time that such informative workshop is being organized in the State which has immense importance in upgrading and improving our health structure in the State. He appreciated NIPI and UNDP for doing yeomen service towards providing technical support to six high priority districts identified by Government of India. He said that these organizations would help in preparing Sub-Plan with the active support of Health Department to further deliver better healthcare services to people at their doorsteps.
The Minister further stated that these workshops are aimed at to keep a check on health indicators like Infant Mortality Rate (IMR), Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Total Fertility Rate (TFR) and with the technical support of NIPI and UNDP the IMR, MMR and TFR rate has recorded significant decrease.
Shabir said that State has witnessed substantial growth in health sector due to serious efforts and keen interest of Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Director Health Services, Jammu, gave a power point presentation on activities of the department. He said that Border Cluster District Programme, RCH-1, RCH-2, NRHM besides numerous reforms have been launched in the State to provide upgraded health infrastructure. He also threw light on goals and prospective needs of the workshop which would help in removing weak links and to overcome the shortcomings. He apprised that our health indicators are one of the best indicators in the country.
Mission Director National Rural Health Mission also spoke on the occasion and expressed gratitude to the Center for identifying Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Poonch, Ramban and Leh as priority districts.
Dr Baldev Sharma presented vote of thanks and Dr Harjeet Rai (NRHM) and Dr Avinash Jaswal (UNDP) coordinated the programme.
