JAMMU, Feb 8: The recent incident of sexual harassment of a woman by Former Health Minister and a Congress leader, Shabir Ahmed Khan has invited widespread anger from the entire population of the State and the people of Rajouri and Poonch in particular are of the view that it has brought shame and disgrace to them, said BJP State vice president, Vibodh Gupta.
While addressing media persons at party headquarters here today, he said that the molestation of senior lady doctor by the MoS Health Shabir Ahmed Khan is very shameful act and has indicated that even the women at higher places in the Government Departments are not safe. The more unfortunate part of it has been the intentional denial of registration of FIR against the Minister, which is clear from the fact that the lady doctor had been knocking the doors of concerned Police Station since January 28, he added.
He said even more unfortunate is that the entire group of colleagues of MoS Health in the Government and in the Congress party have been making efforts to shield him. He said had the court not intervened and come to the rescue of the victim directing for registration of FIR against the Minister, he would have been scoot free.
Vibodh Gupta, while demanding constitution of Special Investigating Team (SIT) under the direct supervision of Supreme Court, said that justice cannot be expected from any agency under the NC-Congress Coalition Government as the investigations will surely be influenced. He said that Shabir Ahmed Khan should immediately be arrested and fair and speedy trial be conducted.
Gupta also demanded to conduct independent inquiry into number of past allegations against this Congress leader including scam worth Rs. 11 crore in CAPD, Rs. 1 crore scam in Pahari Hostel and embezzlement of crores of rupees under NRHM scheme. The extent of his corruption will automatically get exposed if his present property is compared to that which he had filed while contesting the last election.
BJP Office Secretary Rajinder Sharma and BJYM State President Ravinder Raina were also present in the press conference.
