Shabir reviews achievements of Labour & Employment Deptt

JAMMU, Sept 4: To review physical and financial achievements of Labour and Employment Department and implementation and enforcement of labour laws, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD), Transport, Power, Labour and Employment, Shabir Ahmed Khan today convened a meeting of concerned functionaries, at Civil Secretariat today.
During the meeting, the Minister took district wise review of the self employment cases received and their disposal, amount awarded to beneficiaries, number of beneficiaries registered and revenue realized, labour wages, medical benefits, payment of wages, payment of gratuity under various acts of labour sector.
The Minister was apprised that in Jammu province 100 cases were received till July, 2012 and majority of these were disposed off.  He was further told that an amount of Rs 308.62 lakh has been disbursed as compensation in case of accidental injuries and deaths.
The Minister said that Government has constituted District Level Advisory Boards for eradication of child labour and asked the concerned functionaries to work for the cause with dedication. He said that special  powers have been vested in BDOs, Tehsildars, Village Level Workers, Assistant Labour Commissioners to ensure implementation of various provision of Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act 1986. The Minister directed for regular inspections so that the act is implemented in letter and spirit.
About employment sector, the meeting was told that District Employment Counselling Centres in all districts of Jammu province were providing loan facilities under J&K Self Employment Scheme to unemployed youth upto Rs 10 lakh on subsidy to help establish their own income generating units.
The Minister was apprised that under Voluntary Service Allowance (VSA), the department is providing allowance of Rs. 600 to Rs 1100 to BPL beneficiaries   depending upon the qualification of the beneficiary. Under Oversees Scheme, Employment Corporation has registered a number of youth to sponsor them for  jobs in abroad.
The Minister was informed that under Sher-i-Kashmir Employment Welfare Scheme (SKEWPY), the construction work on departmental buildings is in full swing and expected to be completed in a time bound manner.
The Minister asked the participants to gear up their activities so that benefit of welfare schemes launched by the department would reach to the deserving beneficiaries. He asked the officers to work with utmost dedication and commitment for speedy disposal of pending cases.
The meeting was attended by Director Employment, Dr. Abdul Rashid and senior officers of labour and allied departments.
