HM hails Admn, security agencies for successful yatra
*PM’s vision to have prosperous, peaceful J&K

JAMMU, Aug 25: Union Home Minister Amit Shah today called upon security forces and Jammu and Kashmir Police to continue with coordinated efforts through meticulous and well-planned counter terrorism operations to wipe out terrorism in J&K.
He was speaking at a high-level security review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir in New Delhi which was attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Union Home Secretary AK Bhalla, Army chief Gen Manoj Pandey, RAW chief Samant Goel, Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta, CRPF DG Kuldiep Singh, BSF chief Pankaj Singh, NIA Director General Dinkar Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) RK Goyal, Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh and DG CID Rashmi Ranjan Swain among others.
“Terrorism should be wiped out from Jammu and Kashmir through meticulous and well-planned counter-terror operations,” Shah said in nearly one-and-a-half-hour long meeting.
He said it is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to have a prosperous and peaceful Jammu and Kashmir.
“And to achieve this goal, security forces should strive to make the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) impregnable,” the Home Minister said.

He added that once the fear of cross-border movement of terrorists and smuggling of arms and ammunition by them is eliminated, the people of Jammu and Kashmir would decisively defeat proxy war with the help of security forces.
“Terror ecosystem comprising elements that aid, abet and sustain the terrorist-separatist campaign to the detriment of well being of common man requires to be dismantled,” the Home Minister said.
He also reviewed the cases registered under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in Jammu and Kashmir and called for timely and effective investigation.
“The concerned investigation agencies should work on improving capacities for ensuring quality investigation,” Shah said.
Reviewing working of Security Grid and various actions being taken to reduce incidents of terrorism over last few years, the Union Home Minister appreciated efforts of security agencies and administration of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir for successful conduct of annual Shri Amarnath Ji pilgrimage this year, which was held after a gap of two years due to COVID-19 pandemic.
It may be mentioned here that massive 3.65 lakh pilgrims visited Shri Amarnath Ji cave shrine in South Kashmir Himalayas this year. The pilgrimage lasted 43 days.
`”The yatra was held smoothly and peacefully with no terror-related incident reported,” sources said.
Ongoing anti-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir mainly the Kashmir valley were also reported to have come up for high-level review at the meeting and top security officials gave detailed briefing to the Home Minister on a number of militants killed in Kashmir including many top commanders, thus, breaking backbone of the militancy.
However, in frustration, the militants were trying to hit soft targets but their attempts on this front have also been mostly thwarted by security forces and police with successful conduct of operations against hybrid militants.
Ongoing development works including those which are being executed under Centrally Sponsored Schemes and Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) were also reviewed at the high-level meeting.
Though there has been an increase in infiltration attempts on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, the troops have foiled majority of such bids and either eliminated or apprehended the infiltrators. Some of the intruders, however, managed to retreat to Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) after failing to intrude into this side.
“Entire gamut of security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir came up for review during the meeting,” sources said, adding in the coming days anti-militancy operations, which were going on in full swing in the Kashmir valley, could be further expedited.
