DODA, June 3: Shaheedi Divas of Bhagat Amarnath was observed in a function held at sports stadium here today.
A large gathering under the banner of All India Confederstion of SC/ST/OBC Organisations, Doda Unit, assembled at Sports Stadium here, the birth place of Shaheed Bhagat Amarnath, who sat on fast unto death at Karan Park Jammu and attained martyrdom on June 1, 1970, where after the then State Govt implemented provisions of reservation after a period of 20 years when reservation was made applicable in the entire India in 1950.
Dr Udit Raj, Member Parliament and National Chairman All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organisations participated as chief guest on the occasion along with RK Kalsotra State president. Inderjeet Bhagat, veteran leader and National president Megh Sabha, Chandigarh, was the guest of honour.
Leaders of Confederation from Punjab, Chandigarh, Rajasthan Haryana, Himachal, Delhi along with representatives from all the districts of Jammu and Kashmir participated. It was the first ever grand gathering of Dalits, Tribes, down trodden Muslims from Watal community as well as from OBC, RBA communities also participated.
Dr Udit Raj, Kalsotra and Inderjeet after reaching the stadium, garlanded portrait of Shaheed Bhagat Amarnath. While addressing the gathering, Dr Udit recalled the Shaheed as icon of the society and 2nd Ambedkar of India and said that had he not made the supreme sacrifice there would have been no progress of society.
He further said that whatever is our progress till date, it was only due to the efforts of people like Bhagat Ji and those who have benefitted from reservation it is their bounden moral duty to save the right to reservation so that these rights should percolate down to the last and left out man of the society.
Inderjeet apprised the gathering that mission of his Sabha was to help the poor students of the society by adopting them and distributing them scholarships. They had great respect for Shaheed Bhagat and he assured the Confederation about his Sabha’s entire support to save rights.
Mr Kalsotra congratulated the Chenab region people for organizing such Mega Shaheedi Divas and said that their unity has definitely sent a strong signal to Govt to bring the positive results for whole community and he hoped other districts will follow the example set by them. Kalsotra asked the people to assemble in Srinagar on June 12, 2016 in large numbers to hold convention/protest.
BL Bhardwaj, R R Bakolia, Vijay Kumar, Shabir Choudhry, Dina Nath, Hanley Kohli, Bishan Lal, Piar Chand Bhagat, Ashiq Watal and others also spoke on the occasion.
