RAMBAN, Sept 30: District president National Conference Ramban, Sajjad Shaheen today expressed deep anguish over the Government decision to close Banihal tunnel for sixteen hours, saying this generally causes enormous jams on both sides of this tunnel.
“This is unjustified”, he said, adding that being the life line between Kashmir and Jammu regions, the government cannot take such a decision which has not only put the travelling public to inconvenience but affected transportation of essential commodities. More so, the transportation of fruit from the Valley to rest of the country has also got affected by this measure, he added.
Shaheen said the population on the highways, especially in Banihal, Ramban, Ramsoo belt is facing the major brunt due to stranded vehicles which make interior movement quite impossible. The situation becomes precarious when patients are required to move to the health institutions in the event of medical-emergencies, he added.
He sought immediate review of the decision and opening of the tunnel as per previous schedule. He assailed the anti-people measures of the PDP-BJP government saying such tactics will only alienate the people further.
