JAMMU, May 8: The Tri-centenary (300th) Shahidi Divas of Banda Singh Bahadur and ‘Gurmat Samagam’ was held at MBS Engineering College, Babliana, Jammu under the supervision of Mahant Manjit Singh ji of Dera Nangali Sahib, Poonch with the cooperation of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Com-mittee last evening.
A large number of devotees from various parts of Northern region participated in this grand religious programme. Many leaders from various political, religious and social organisation actively participated in the martyrdom day.
Prominent among them included Bhai Gurdev Singh and Bhai Gurmit Singh, Ragis of Shri Darbar Sahib Amritsar, Bhai Ranjit Singh ji Head Granthi Bangla Sahib Gurdwara Delhi.
Speaker Legislative Asse-mbly, Kavinder Gupta, Sham Lal Chowdary Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Jugal Kishore Sharma (MP), Raman Bhalla former minister, Gulcharan Singh Charak former minister, S.Rangil Singh former minister and vice president PDP, Sunil Sethi senior advocate and chief spokesperson of BJP, Sudarshan Singh Wazir president Sikh United Front and ex-president SGPB, Harvinder Singh besides several leaders of local political parties and various Sikh organizations like Sikh United Front, SAD, BKNSS, AISSF, SNS, SWS, members of DGPC and J&K Motor Transport Companies Asso-ciation.
While addressing the gathering Sudarshan Singh Wazir said that Banda Singh Bahadur was born at Rajouri in J&K. He was Baptized Amrit by Guru Gobind Singh Ji and afterwards he was called as Gurbaksh Singh. He fought many battles against cruelty of the rulers and for truth and justice. He was arrested during the Mughal rule and was brutally killed along with his family. So, he sacrificed his life for the sake of religion and country. He demanded the name of Kunjwani Chowk to be renamed as Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Chowk. He also demanded that a statue of Banda Singh Bahadur be installed at the said Kunjwani Chowk.
The life and history of Banda Singh Bahadur was telecast through light and sound show for the first time. Mr Wazir also thanked Manjit Singh president Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee for his help and Support for Samagam.
Mahant Manjit Singh Ji extended gratitude to all participants and Sikh Sangat of J&K for actively participating in the function and presented ‘Siropas’ to prominent personalities there.
