Shailendra reviews progress of Rs 14.81 cr tourism projects

JAMMU, Aug 18: Commissioner Secretary Tourism and Culture Shailendra Kumar accompanied by Director Tourism Jammu R. K. Varma, Deputy Director Tourism (M&W) Sidharath Zutshi, and other officers took extensive on spot review of ongoing developmental projects here today.
While reviewing the development of River Tawi Front at Jammu, Director Tourism apprised that the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India had sanctioned this project during 2011-12 at an estimated cost of Rs. 3.99 crore. Under the project, a park is being developed for the entertainment of children and leisure of tourists. The main components of the park are toy train and children entertainment equipments, kiosks, pathways, sitting benches, view points, public convenience and ornamental lights.
The River Tawi Front once completed will be an added attraction to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims. The project is aimed at providing recreational facilities to the tourists which combined with other tourist attractions in Jammu city will go a long way in diversifying the tourism profile.
At Jia Potha, Akhnoor, Tourist Reception Centre at an estimated cost of Rs. 4.43 crore has been sanctioned by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. The main components of the projects are 6 VIP rooms with attached bathrooms, one dormitory with intake capacity of around 50 persons with attached bathrooms, restaurant and kitchen.
The Tourism Reception Centre will go a long way in showcasing the unique cultural heritage of Akhnoor town and its adjoining region. The TRC is expected to function as a gateway to the scenic Mughal Road upto Poonch and Kashmir Valley.
Recognizing the rich cultural heritage on offer, Commissioner Secretary directed to prepare a comprehensive DPR for promotion of Heritage Tourism.
Shailendra Kumar also visited Suchetgarh which is being promoted as a Border Tourism destination on the pattern of Wagha Border. The Tourism Department has created high quality tourism infrastructure for the convenience of the tourists like Cafeteria, rooms, Kiosks, View Points and Parking Lots. The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India had sanctioned this project at an estimated cost of Rs. 6.39 crore during 2011-12. Commissioner Secretary also interacted with the tourists hailing from Utter Pardesh who were there at the time of his visit.
In the evening, Commissioner Secretary (T&C) reviewed the detailed progress of Jammu Tawi Golf Course. At the Course, he launched the plantation drive by planting sapling of Rudraksh tree along with Director Tourism, Conservator of Forest, Jammu and other senior officers of the department.
