Shakti, others pay floral tributes to Shaheed Amarnath Bhagat

JAMMU, June 2: Under the aegis of Shaheed Bhagat Amaranth Trust a function under the name Ek Sham Shaheedon Ke Naam was organised here, at Shaheed Amaranth Bhagat Park, Shalimar road, Civil Secretariat in which floral tributes were paid to Shaheed Bhagat Amarnath Ji.
On this occasion, Minister of State for Education, Shakti Raj Parihar, MLAs Dr. Krishan Lal Bhagat, and Bali Bhagat, BJP Chandhighar, parbhari  Surinder Bhagat were present. They released a documentary Karam Yodha, which is based on the life story of Shaheed Amaranth Bhagat.
While addressing the gathering, Advocate Rajan Bhagat  president of Shaheed  Amaranth Bhagat Trust apprised that Shaheed dedicated his life for social cause exclusively for downtrodden people of the State. He further elaborated that during 1970 there was a great resentment among Dalit Samaj for denial of reservation rights by unjust and hostile State Government, despite the reservation had already been implemented  for SCs and STs in Central services and in all other states after the Constitution of India came into force on Jan 26, 1950 with the great efforts of Baba Sahib, Dr. B R Ambedkar.
He said Shaheed Bhagat, Amar Nath took very serious and comprehensive note of the malafide intention of the State Government and intensified his non stop agitation in entire Jammu province and when his demand was not accepted he took an extreme step and sat on fast upto death on May 21,1970 at Shaheed Amarnath Bhagat Park in front of Civil Secretariat and achieved Martyrdom on June 1, 1970 and became ‘Martyr for reservation’.
After that the demand of reservation was accepted by the J&K State Government
Advocate Rajan Bhagat demanded quotas in promotion for SCs and STs.
Minister Shakti Raj Parihar, MLA Bali Bhagat, MLA Dr. Krishan Lal Bhagat honoured Anukul Bhagat for representing  Indian Team in Asian Championship at Indonesia  and raising the name of Bhagat community.
