Tral, July 27:  The residents of Shaldraman area of South Kashmir’s Tral today held protest against the Government’s proposed move of setting up a poultry industry in the picturesque area.
The residents which include Sikhs and Muslims said that the Government was hell-bent to destroy the environment including the landscape in the area by setting up the industry on whooping 2300 kanals of land. They alleged that the Government was not taking care of their apprehensions with regard to the setting up of the proposed industry in the area.
“They are all set to destroy the humans living in the area including the environment. If they want to establish the poultry industry, why can’t they do that in Srinagar, aren’t we humans,” a resident said.
“The Governor talks about uplifting the poor, what are they then doing with us, they are destroying our livelihoods; we don’t want it here at any cost,” he added.
The residents alleged that in spite of Deputy Commissioner Pulwama’s assurance that the land will not be utilized without the consent of the locals, several departments keep coming to inspect the area.
“DC Pulwama told us that the land will not be used without our consent, but they keep coming to the area, and today there was a scuffle between them and the locals; we don’t want it to happen each and every day,” they said.
The locals warned that if the Government went ahead with its plan, they will be forced to migrate from the area, for which the administration will be solely responsible.
“Poor people live in the area,  mostly minorities, if they want to do it, we will be migrating. Plus, if they will go ahead with their plan, few schools in the vicinity will be shut, a playground that has been constructed after spending lakhs, will also be shut,” said another resident.
