JAMMU, Oct 17: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma today dedicated 10000 gallon discharge capacity deep drill tube well under National Rural Development Water Programme (NRDWP) to Bomal people of Akhnoor.
The Water Supply Scheme (WSS) including laying of water supply pipes in uncovered areas of the Bomal has been constructed at a cost of Rs 108.60 lakh.
Addressing a largely attended public meeting after inauguration of the deep drill tube well, Sham said that on the commissioning of the water supply scheme, a populace of about 30000 souls of Bomal and it adjoining areas would get relief from shortage of drinking water. He said that Government is highly concerned about the scarcity of water supply in urban and peripheral areas of the State, adding that number of water supply schemes have been taken up and completed to provide safe drinking water to the people of these areas. He directed the PHE Department to complete the ongoing construction work of Over Head Tank within stipulated time frame.
Emphasizing the need to involve Sarpanch, Panch as well as locals in the revival and maintenance of traditional water resources, the Minister said that these areas have perennial source of water in Kandi areas since centuries. He said that Government is also working on a comprehensive plan to modernize and revive all the traditional ponds and water bodies in kandi areas and number of traditional water schemes taken in hand and completed.
The Minister was informed that PHE Department has taken up number of works/schemes under different heads which include NRDWP district plan and in towns under (UIDSSMT) in the areas.
The Minister asked the executing agencies to make optimum use of funds and complete remaining schemes/projects in a time bound manner. He urged upon the people to personally monitor the development works being executed in their respective areas.
He said that the Government is fully aware of the problems of the people of the State who have suffered losses due to flash floods and heavy rains. He assured that every possible help will be extended for their rehabilitation.
