JAMMU, May 12: Senior vice president BJP and former Minister, Sham Lal Sharma has demanded increasing of health care beds in the Government Medical Colleges of J&K UT with ICU facilities and providing of adequate training staff, equipments and medical Oxygen.
In a letter to Lt , Governor, Manoj Sinha, he also demanded Level Second facilities in the Associated hospitals of the Government Medical Colleges, district hospitals, Army , CRPF and BSF hospitals be expanded by provision of extra beds, manpower, equipments, medical gases to accommodate the increasing number of patients in the UT. Such facilities will reduce the load on level One hospitals , he added.
He said that the level III facilities i.e COVID Care centers for COVID Patients be expanded in every district, as was done during last year and their number be increased immediately to accommodate asymptomatic patients who do not have separate room with toilet facilities in their houses. It accounts for 80 percent population in urban and rural areas.
Sharma said in view of shortage of Oxygen, beds in Level One hospitals, the proposed 500 bedded hospital being constructed by DRDO at Jammu and Srinagar should be expedited and provided with adequate trained manpower and it should be under the administrative control of experienced doctors. The manpower required should be recruited and put in place within next one week, by whatever means the Government decides.
He said in view of reported shortage of Oxygen in various health institutions, the Oxygen generation plants which are under commissioning should be completed without wastage of time.
He said in the light of spread the disease to the rural areas, the healthcare institutions like Health and Wellness centers, Sub centers, Primary health Centers and Sub District Hospitals (CHCs) Should be well equipped and staff trained to handle COVID positive cases at their respective places of admission and not unnecessarily allowed to travel from villages to towns for treatment. This will result in further spread of disease, he added.
Sharma said the people in home isolation who are COVID positive should be contacted on regular intervals by the district administration to ensure that they are referred to the hospitals at appropriate time without any delay. Moreover, the people should not be allowed to do the hoarding of Oxygen cylinders, Oxygen Concentrators, medicines etc at their residences as it is resulting in self medication causing more harm than benefits to the patients, he added.
