AKHNOOR, Feb 7: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Sharma flagged off fleet of vehicles for making public announcement and social mobilization on Water and Sanitation under Communication and Capacity Development Unit/ Water and Sanitation Support Organization Department of PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control.
The programme was organized by the Communication and Capacity Development Unit (CCDU) in collaboration with National Development Foundation (NDF) which is Programme Implementing Agency for Jammu, Samba and Kathua.
M.A. Anjum, chief patron NDF presented welcome address while vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Narinder Bhatial, State Coordinator CCDU, Rajiv Khajuria Chief Functionary NDF.
SE, Hydraulic, Jammu, Rajiv Malhotra, Executive Engineers, engineers, doctors, sarpanchs, Anganwari Workers, Asha Workers, Tehsildar Akhnoor, BMO Akhnoor and Chauki Chawra were also present on the occasion besides around 700 members of Village Water and Sanitation Programme participated in the programme.
Sham Lal while addressing the workshop asked Village, Water and Sanitation Committees members to organize monthly meetings. He directed the PHE officers to train AEEs and JEs as resource persons who will support block and village level events. He asked the Village Water and Sanitation Committees to look after their water resources and properly fence the same so that no fecal matters enters into it causing water contamination.
He also asked the concerned to display boards like “Drinking Water Source Keep it clean” on all drinking water sources. He asked the department to regularly clean the filtration and storage tanks and supply contamination free water to the people.
The Minister said that awareness about water sanitation, conservation and its judicious use is an important component of National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) which is being implemented in letter and spirit by the PHE Department. He asked the concerned to expand its area of operation at the block level and conduct frequent awareness camps to educate the masses at the bottom level to achieve the real purpose of the programme.
Dr. Narinder Batial, State Coordinator CCDU, while giving details about the functioning of CCDU and State level Water Sanitation Mission said that Government has adopted a well-knit strategy to generate awareness about the water sanitation and its usages among the general masses at all levels.
Earlier, the Minister inaugurated drinking water/conservation sanitation landscaping and greening facilities under SMS programme at Government Higher Secondary School Boys and Girls at Akhnoor. Both the programmes were organized by CCDU, PHE, I&FC under Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission Programme.
