Sham for monitoring of schemes at ground level

JAMMU, Sept 20: In an attempt to reach out to the people of border and rural areas, Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma, today dedicated 7500 gallon/hour discharge capacity drill tube well to the people of Pindi Sarochan in Suchatgarh, R. S. pura.
MLA Suchatgarh, Sham Lal Shoudhary, former Minister, R. S. Chib, SDM, R. S. Pura, Chief Engineer PHE, K. K. Gupta, Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control, Varinder Badyal, SE, Hydraulic, Rajeev Malhotra, Executive Engineers and AEE besides Sarpanchs and Panchs of the area were also present on the occasion.
The tubewell has been completed with a cost of Rs.137.10 lakh under NRDWSP.
Addressing a public meeting after inauguration of the tube well, Sham said that with the commissioning of this new water supply scheme, a populace of about 10,000 souls of village Pindi Sarochan and its adjoining areas would get relief from shortage of drinking water. He said that Government was highly concerned about the scarcity of water supply in border and peripheral areas of the State, adding that number of water supply schemes have been taken up to provide safe drinking water to the people of these areas.
The Minister was informed that the PHE Department has taken up number of works under different schemes. He informed that under NRDWSP, nine schemes including WSSs Sai Kalan, Sai Khurd, Dewangarh, Pindi Sarochan, Kotli Aryiian, Fattu Chak, Satowali, Jeora Farm and Chakroi II are in progress with an estimated cost of Rs.1361.77 lakh during this year. Besides, an amount of Rs.164.43 lakh has been proposed under various WSSs during the current financial year.
He was also informed that out of the above said nine schemes, two schemes WSS Pindi Sarochan and WSS Sai Khurd are expected to be completed during current year.
Moreover, water supply scheme Suchetgarh is being executed under district sector MNP at an estimated cost of Rs.46.07 lakh.
Sham said that Government was committed to upgrade the existing infrastructure of PHE and Irrigation facilities so that the people of the state get safe drinking water and irrigation facilities. He instructed the concerned engineers and officers to formulate a comprehensive plan for the revival of irrigation canals, traditional reservoirs and check dams to improve the ground water level.
