JAMMU, June 29: Reiter-ating that the Government is committed to strengthen democratic institutions in the State, Minister for Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma said that an empowered Panchayati Raj system has been established for ensuring effective decentralization of powers at the grass root level.
The Minister was speaking after inaugurating Panchayat Ghar constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 25 lakh under MGNREGA at village Raja Chak today.
Mr. Sham said that the Government has ensured adequate empowerment of the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) by empowering them with powers of 14 vital departments and said that with an aim to strengthen monitoring of the developmental works regular reviews will be held by cluster of Panchayats.
The Minister while highlighting the importance of proper infrastructure for carrying out the day-to-day activities of PRIs said that the same would be strengthened in every nook and corner of the state in order to facilitate their working and to ensure that democratic decentralization of powers takes place in the State at every level.
He said that the Government is making all out efforts to further strengthen the democratic set up and developmental activities are carried forward with the active participation of the people at the grass root level.
Later, the Minister laid foundation stone of tube well at village lower Raja Chak which will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.98 lakh.
He emphasized on judicious use of drinking water. He also directed the concerned agencies for making efforts for preserving the traditional water resources, and revival of the old ponds to further enhance water supply services in the state. He also stressed upon the need of constructing more and more chack dams.
Chief Engineer, PHE, K K Gupta, SE Hydraulic Jammu, Rajeev Malhotra, SDM Akhnoor, ACD, District Panchayat Officer, sectoral officers, Sarpanchs and Panchs were also present on the occasion.
