JAMMU, Oct 3: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Sharma today directed the officers of Flood Control Department to gear up their field functionaries for timely completion of protection wall and steps along Chenab river at Dusserha Ground Akhnoor.
The Minister was inspecting various ongoing developmental works being executed under different schemes in Akhnoor block.
The works inspected by the Minister included construction of tube-well at Bharda Kalani, beautification of ponds and development of park at Bharda Kalani on modern lines, construction of protection wall at Dusserha Ground, Akhnoor etc.
The Minister was informed that Rs.188 lakh are being spent on construction of tube-well at Bharda Kalani and work on rising main, sump tank has been completed while remaining work is in full swing.
While inspecting progress on construction of tube-well, the Minister said that with the completion of this tube-well, the water scarcity in this area would be redressed. He directed the Chief Engineer to ensure timely and quality completion of the project.
The Minister also inspected the development work being executed at different ponds in the area. He directed the BDO to ensure that the works are completed at the earliest. He also inspected the pace of progress on widening of road at Phabara Chowk
The Minister directed the executing agencies to speed up the pace of work on all ongoing developmental works and complete them in a stipulated time frame.
He said Government is keen to ensure beautification of parks and other spots to further raise tourists influx as tourism sector contributes major chunk to State’s economy.
A team of senior officers and engineers from PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Department including Chief Engineer K. K. Gupta accompanied the Minister during his visit.
