Sham kick starts restoration work on steel flume crossing defence ditch

JAMMU, June 18: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Choudhary, today kick started restoration work on steel flume crossing defence ditch at Khal in Suchetgarh constituency to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 2.50 lakh.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that with the completion of this project, irrigation facility to over 300 acres of land would be restored benefitting   the people of village Khushalpur and its adjoining areas. He instructed irrigation authorities to complete the work within the stipulated timeframe.
The Minister asked for undertaking desilting works on time so that the irrigation water reaches the tail end. He called upon the officers to expedite the flood protection works so that the farmers do not suffer on this account. He also directed the concerned departments to work in close coordination to provide irrigation and drinking water facility to the people particularly those farmers who have their lands at the tail end.
The Minister asked the engineers to personally monitor the restoration works on traditional water reservoirs, ponds as these would help meet the increasing water requirement. He said that directions have already been passed to construct ponds in every division for further increasing the water resources.
