UDHAMPUR, Oct 7: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma today reviewed the progress of relief works of Udhampur and restoration of damaged works of PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Department in Udhampur and Reasi district at conference hall DC office, Udhampur.
Mr. Sharma get appraisal of the situation that has arisen due to incessant rains resulting in overwhelming flood and landslide particularly in Udhampur and Reasi districts.
Minister assured all possible help from the Government to the flood victims to overcome the difficulties and help relief and rehabilitation of the affected families. He asked DDC to submit a comprehensive memorandum of losses occurred due to floods/ landslide to the Government as soon as possible.
He directed all concerned officers to submit Utilization Certificate of respective works to District Development Commissioner, Udhampur for further release of funds for restoration of various schemes in the district.
He stressed upon the officers of the PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Department to restore all the schemes sub division wise within five days. He asked DDC to personally monitor the progress of restoration works and schemes of PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Department of the Udhampur district.
He further directed Chief Engineers, SEs and XEns to visit the rural and far flung areas of the district to get first hand information of the progress and restoration of the works and schemes.
He instructed all the officers to do reforms and bring improvement in the water supply in the district besides protection works of the nallahs of the areas, he added.
District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Yasha Mudgal gave an overview of the restoration and relief measures taken by the district administration to save the lives, property and evacuate people from the flood and landslide areas.
Meanwhile, to mark the end of the 3-day Environment Study Tour, Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, participated in the camp fire of students of Government Degree College, Akhnoor at Patnitop last evening.
The Camp was organised by National Development Foundation (Non Governmental Organization), Jammu.
As many as 130 college students and volunteers of NDF including girls participated in the environment study tour.
Mr. Sham lauded the initiatives taken by the NDF and hoped that such type of events would be organized in future.
On the occasion, Mr. Sham said that during this tour youth will be made aware about how to conserve Himalayan eco systems without compromising with the livelihoods of the people residing there. He stressed upon the students to utilize this golden opportunity to learn about the environment, its ecosystems and its conservation.
He further exhorted upon them to become ambassador, to further spread the message of conservation of eco systems during their study tour in the society.
Later, Minister for PHE Irrigation and Flood Control interacted with volunteers, students and functionary of NDF during the camp.
Earlier, Chief Functionary NDF, Rajib Khajuria gave brief resume about the environment study tour to educate the youth about the environmental issue.
