JAMMU, Feb 24: In a rare distinction for Jammu and Kashmir cadre IAS officer , Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India, Dr Naseem Zaidi has picked Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Jammu and Kashmir Shantmanu to represent him on World Conference of CECs of all the countries, being held at Georgia on February 27 and 28.
Shantmanu along with Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal will represent the CEC at the annual World Conference of CECs at Georgia as Dr Naseem Zaidi was unable to attend the conference in view of ongoing Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, which has been a tough challenge for the Election Commission of India.
While Andhra Pradesh CEO Bhanwar Lal is the senior most CEO in the country, Shantmanu has been picked up for his efficiency and dedication in the work.
There are a total of 36 Chief Electoral Officers in the country and, of them, only two have been picked up on the basis of their vast experience and knowledge to represent the CEC at the global conference, sources said.
Shantmanu has left for New Delhi and would depart for Georgia tomorrow.
The World Conference of CECs would debate the electoral reforms and other major election related issues during the two-day conference at Georgia.
