JAMMU, June 15: In a meeting with prominent citizens, Y.V Sharma, former president Chamber of Commerce and Industry expressed concern that Jammu city and its surrounding areas are experiencing acute shortage of drinking water especially in the present sultry heat conditions.
A lot of resentment was shown in this regard in the meeting wherein the speakers said that adequate steps are not being taken by the government to mitigate the problem.
These speakers said that the government had under consideration a proposal to lift water from river Chenab for Jammu city and its adjoining areas but no concrete progress in this regard is seen on the ground so far.
All those present in the meeting hoped that the authorities concerned should fix a time frame for the completion of this project so that the difficulty on account of scarcity of water being experienced in almost all the Wards of Jammu particularly in colonies like Chhani Himmat, Trikuta Nagar, Sainik Colony, Roop Nagar etc is removed.
