In the prevailing scenario of facing two of our belligerent and hostile neighbours , it is imperative that we leave no stone unturned in meeting our defence preparedness. The era has become synonymous with the increasing combat role played by ”fighter” armed drones which are automatically driven, regulated and manoeuvred in the sense on board there is no human being. The deadly accuracy and tremendous efficacy of such drones has been adequately tested in many a wonderful operation including the recent one used by the US in eliminating terrorist Al-Zawaheri in Kabul Afghanistan.
It is a matter of great satisfaction that in order to up our surveillance apparatus capabilities along the frontiers with unpredictable but hostile China, negotiations at higher US Government levels for purchasing modern version of MQ- 9B drone, a variant of the Reaper drone used in Kabul operation against Zawaheri, are going on. At the outset, 30 of such deadly drones may be purchased from the US . The vested interests and those rattled with the deal have vainly floated the word that the deal is off the table which reports are rubbished and rejected. The country must, never in the least, remain any behind in efforts to continuously keep our combating capabilities’ teeth sharpened. These drones, it may be noted, are being procured for the three services.
