Shashi Kapoor to get Dada Saheb Phalke Award

Acclaimed actor and producer Shashi  Kapoor will be conferred the Dada Saheb Phalke Award for 2014, the Centre announced here today.
Born in 1938 to a reputed Bollywood family, Kapoor made his debut in the film world with a lead role in the movie ‘Dharamputra’ in 1961. He went on to appear in a number of hit movies numbering over a 100.
He has also acted in a number of English films. Kapoor has starred with leading actresses, including Nanda, Sharmila Tagore, Zeenat Aman and Hema Malini.
Son of legendary theatre personality and actor Prithvi Raj Kapoor and brother of Raj Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor, the septuagenarian actor has also been honoured with Padma Bhushan, one of the highest civilian awards.
He had celebrated his 77th birthday on March 18. Kapoor also made his mark as a producer and director. His famous productions include critically acclaimed films Junoon (1978), Kalyug (1981), 36 Chowringhee Lane (1981), Vijeta (1982) and Utsav (1984).
Dadasaheb Phalke Award is the highest film award of the country named after the father of the Indian film industry. (AGENCIES)
