JAMMU, Jan 20: President of the National Mazdoor Conference (NMC), Subash Shastri today demanded the implementation of Ashok Lavasa Committee recommendations by the Central Government in the interim budget 2019 to be tabled in Lok Sabha on February 1, 2019 by the Union Finance Minister.
Addressing a meeting of NMC workers here today, the Shastri urged Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to fulfill his promise to the salaried class and rationalize the pay structure adding that the issue has been pending since more than one year and Government should immediately address demand of this important middle class segment which had earlier been instrumental in voting NDA Government to power in 2014 Lok Sabha election. He said that the recommendations were to enhance salary of lower class employees and pensioners from Rs 18,000 to Rs 21,000.
Shastri further demanded that income tax slabs be raised to Rs five lakh income base and that the DA component of salaries should be exempted completely from income tax, as the same always reflects an increase in consumer price index.
Shastri brought home the point that DA installment which is due from January 1, 2019, should be paid at the rate of 4 percent of basic pay/pension due to huge inflation of necessary commodities. “Before the model code of conduct of upcoming elections of Lok Sabah, which is likely to be announced in the second week of March by the Election Commission of India comes into effect, there is an opportunity for NDA Government at the Centre to fully demonstrate their sympathy and appreciation for the middle class which is being trumpeted day to day out,” he added.
Shastri reminded the top leaderships of BJP to fulfill the promise to solve the long pending issue of thousands of daily rated workers whose demands of regularization and payment of salaries has not been fulfilled so far. He claimed that if all measures are taken to address issues of salaried and middle class, there is every possibility of NDA Government coming to power with thumping majority of 2019 general election.
Among others, who were also present on the occasion, included Rajan Babu Khajuria, B S Jamwal, Darshan Bawa, Madan Lal, Suraj Parkash, Ram Singh, Surinder Kumar, Bhupinder Singh, Ramesh Sharma, Darshan Lal, Sudesh, Mohd Sadeeq, Mohd Shafi and Krishan Lal.
