JAMMU, Aug 3: Commissioner Secretary, Social Welfare Department (SWD), Sheetal Nanda today inaugurated Working Women’s Hostel; “Sakhi Niwas” at Roop Nagar here.
Director General, Social welfare Department, Vivek Sharma; MD Mission Vatsalaya, Harvinder Kour and other senior officers of SWD were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Sheetal Nanda highlighted about the importance of ‘Sakhi Niwas’ under the Mission Shakti guidelines. She further said that efforts of Social Welfare Department is to reach out to various sections of society by conducting awareness events, campaigns, which are all aimed towards women upliftment. She added that the idea behind this initiative to strengthen the gender equality and empowerment of women and girls at all level.
The Sakhi Niwas is established by Social Welfare Department, Jammu under the Mission Shakti guidelines. This hostel facility is for women hailing from rural areas in search of employment and higher education or training in the heart of Jammu city.
The scheme also addresses women rights to work and to free choice of profession and employment. The Women hostel has the facilities of Study Room, Kitchen with cook. Furthermore, it provides safe and women friendly atmosphere under the 24×7 supervision of security guards.
