JAMMU, Sept 8: In a most subdued and emotionally surcharged atmosphere, in the wake of catastrophe caused by unprecedented floods across the State, especially in the Kashmir valley, National Conference leaders and workers today paid tributes to Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah on his death anniversary at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan here.
“At this hour of grief and anguish, the biggest tribute to Sher-e-Kashmir would be to pray for the well-being of those trapped in history’s worst ever floods in the Valley and elsewhere in the State”, Provincial President Devender Singh Rana said while addressing the gloomy audience.
He said the situation continues to remain alarming after the cracks in Jhelum embankments in the Srinagar city with many localities adjacent to the Bund and nearby areas getting marooned. “The administration is trying to reach out to the trapped people and priority is on saving precious human lives”, he said, adding that economic damage can be overcome but loss to the human life is irreparable. He said the Chief Minister has been personally monitoring the relief and rescue operations, as improvement in the weather conditions have rekindled a hope.
Mr Rana and other senior leaders expressed solidarity with the people of Kashmir and those living in flood affected areas of Jammu.
While sharing the miseries of the people in Kashmir, the Provincial President also referred to the anxiety of the family members of Durbar Move employees mostly lodged in the highly inundated Indira Nagar, Srinagar and its immediate peripheries. He expressed solidarity with the family members of those trapped in floods.
Mr Rana also referred to the flood havoc caused in the Jammu areas and urged the party workers to extend full help to the sufferers.
