LEH, (LADAKH) Oct 12: Thousands of Muslims took out a procession in Leh to observe Aashura from Imamia Jama Masjid Chukey Rantak Leh today.
To mark the 10th Day of Islamic month of Muharram and to mourn the killing of Imam Hussain in Karbala in Iraq Shiite Muslims holding black flags and dressed in black costumes observed mourning by beating their chests. They passed through main Bazaar to culminate at the Imam Bada Leh.
The students from different schools besides a large number of people participated in the procession. The battle of Karbala is commemorated during an annual 10th Day period held every Muharram by the Shia as well as many Sunnis and it culminates on 10th Day of Aashura.
Addressing the large gathering at Jama Masjid Leh, president Ullema Committee Leh Alhaj Sheikh Ghulam Hadi, Anjuman Moin Ul Islam president Dr Abdul Qayoom and Syed Zahisha Razvi conveyed the message of Imam Hussain besides throwing light on reasons behind the sacrifices of Imam.
On the occasion of Moharram-Ul-Harram the Anjuman Imamiya Youth Wing Leh (AIYWL) under the banner of Alamdar Health Services organized a blood donation camp to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of Imam Hussian in Leh today.
LAHDC CEC Dr.Sonam Dawa formally inaugurated the camp in presence CMO Dr.Yangchan Dolma and representative of religious heads.
Appreciating the role Alamdar endeavor CEC said that blood donation carries the message of universal brotherhood promoting blood relation among the mankind. He added that blood doesn’t carry any particular religion tag but it’s a manifestation of God to save life and he assured his best support to identity land to set up office for such cause.
Emphasizing the need for spreading blood donation awareness among public Chief Medical Officer Dr.Yangchan Dolma said blood donation is meritorious services which can save someone’s life and added that SNM Hospital has the capacity of storing 300 bags of blood besides there is provision to donate blood at Khaltsi and Nobra sub-centre with150 blood bags storage capacity. She also emphasized on having blood component segregation component at SNM hospital.
She stressed on spreading awareness about organ donation.
Highly appreciating endeavors of AIYWL Anjuman Imamiya president Asharf Ali also spoke on the occasion terming blood donation as most humanitarian services and stressed upon encouragement and recognition for such efforts.
Earlier presenting the welcome speech AIYWL President advocate Muzaffar Hussain Barcha said Alamdar Health Service under the banner of AIYWL have been organizing such blood camps for the past 16 years and so far donated 800 blood units to the needy patient irrespective of any cast or creed.
On the occasion Jama Masjid Leh, president Ullema Committee Leh Alhaj Sheikh Ghulam Hadi, Councilors Nazir Ahmed & Sayeeda Bano, LBA vice president PT Kunzang, Anjuman Moin Ul-Islam, president Dr.Abdul Qayoom and volunteer blood donors were present.
