Shifting HC to Raika has ecological implications: IkkJutt

JAMMU, Nov 3: IkkJutt Jammu has cautioned the Government of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir about the dangerous demographic and ecological implications of shifting the J&K High Court Jammu from Janipur to some place in Raika-Bahu forests.
Addressing a press conference here today, Ajaat Jamwal, general Secretary IkkJutt Jammu said, ” Shifting of High Court will unleash a vicious cycle of total destruction of not only the forest adjacent to Bhatindi but will also rationalise the illegal takeover of forest and Government lands in and around Bhatindi, Raika, Sidhra and Tawi bank.”
“The building of High Court Complex in Raika will involve cutting of thousands of trees which will be an ecological assault of worst dimensions. And this will also build a rationale that if existing forest land can be sacrificed for building a High Court Complex then how could be those who have built homes on the forest land be asked to vacate encroachments when they have been living there for years,” Jamwal said.
IkkJutt Jammu said that the existing High Court Complex at Janipur had been built at a heavy ecological cost, and thinking of building another Complex at Raika-Bahu Forest area, is an ecological insanity.
IkkJutt Jammu general secretary said that evacuating forest lands should be a foremost priority for the Government in the newly constituted Union Territory rather than further compromising the forest wealth for administrative profligacy.
He was accompanied by Ashwani Sharma, Harish Kapoor, Amit Gupta and Kiran Kumar Sharma, senior members.
