JAMMU, Aug 22: Shiv Sena (UBT) Jammu and Kashmir unit has expressed deep anger over the administration’s decision to close the Manda Zoo in Jammu city and demanded that it should be opened as a picnic spot/park.
A team of leaders, led by party state chief Manish Sahni, today met Sarvesh Rai, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and submitted him a memorandum regarding this demand.
Manish Sahni said that the Manda Park, brimming with greenery and free from pollution, is a boon for health of morning, evening walkers and it was earning livelihood for nearby shopkeepers, street vendors.
Sahni said that he has no objection to the newly constructed Jambu Zoo, but being at a distance of 10 kilometers from the city, with the entry fee of Rs 80 and Rs 200 for battery rickshaw to roam around is not liked by the public.
Sahni urged the authorities to reconsider the decision and provide the local citizens with an accessible and cost-free recreational option. On this occasion, Vice President of the Shiv Sena, Sanjeev Kohli was also present.
