Shiv Sena Punjab protests in support of Amarnath pilgrims

KATHUA, June 18: A large number of activists of Shiv Sena Punjab in the shape of a procession entered in J&K at Lakhanpur and held a protest demonstration against J&K Government demanding better arrangements for Amarnath pilgrims and tight security during the Yatra, which is going to start from June 29.
While raising slogans of ‘Bam Bam Bholey’, the Shiv Sena activists entered Lakhnapur after crossing the Ravi bridge. They were stopped by a strong contingent of police led by DSP Gourav Mahajan and Magistrate on duty. The group of Shiv Sena Punjab led by its National chairman Rajiv Tandon, and National President Sanjiv Ghanoli tried to force their entry in the State.
Shiv Sena Punjab Chairman, Rajiv Tandon while addressing the media persons alleged that every year our Amarnath pilgrims were harassed in Kashmir by stone pelters. He said last year, Amarnath pilgrims’ bus was target by militants and security forces failed to gave them security and this year, the situation is already worst in the Valley.
He demanded tight security for pilgrims, handed over of Amarnath route from Lakhnapur to holy cave to Army, withdraw all toll taxes and National taxes for pilgrims, adequate arrangement for pilgrims at Baltal and Pahalgam including the lodging, boarding, hot water and other facilities by the Government without any payments.
Due to protest, the traffic at Lakhanpur came to standstill. Later, a group of five Shiv Sena members was allowed to enter in the State to meet with Governor N N Vohra and submit a memorandum after which the traffic was restored on both sides of Lakhanpur toll.
