SHO among 12 injured in clashes

Srinagar, July 25: People across the Kashmir today protested on Al-Quds Day in solidarity with oppression in Palestine during which rallies, protest demonstrations were taken out during which protesters clashed with police in which at least 12 people including a police officer were injured.
The largest pro-Palestine protest rally was held at Jamia Masjid in Old City area of Nowhatta in Srinagar where thousands of people expressed solidarity with Palestine.
Soon after the Friday prayers, thousands of people in and outside Jamia Masjid held anti-Israel protests. The protesters raised slogans in favour of Palestine. The protesters were holding a large banner inscribed with pro-Palestine slogans.
The protesters started their march from the Jamia Masjid and when they reached near Khwaja Bazar, heavy contingent of police and paramilitary personal tried to intercept them. Youth pelted stones on the police that led to clashes. Police charged batons and fired tearsmoke on protesters. Three protesters and a policeman were injured in the clashes.
In Abi Guzar and Hasanabad Rainawari, hundreds of people holding placards, banners and Palestine flags took out a pro-Palestine rally and staged anti-Israeli protests. The protesters condemned Israeli aggression.
The protesters were stopped at Hasanabad by police from proceeding ahead. The police resorted to teargas shelling and pellet firing, they said. The youth also pelted stones on police ensuing clashes during which three people were injured. The protests were also reported from central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
In South Kashmir’s Tral town of Pulwama district, at least five people including Station House Officer Tral, were injured during clashes at Bus Stand in the town when police tried to intercept an Anti-Israeli protest march.
Hundreds of people in Pulwama town took out a pro-Palestine rally at Muran Chowk. The rally concluded peacefully. Similar rally was taken out from Tak Masjid to Gool Chowk in neighbouring Shopian district.
In North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, hundreds of people held pro-Palestine protests soon after Friday prayers outside Bait-ul-Mukaram Masjid.
