SHO injured during protests against ‘murder’

SRINAGAR, July 7: A police officer sustained injuries after an angry mob resorted to heavy stone pelting on police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel following the death of a resident of Sozeith-Narbal area in Andhra Pradesh. Some members of the mob also sustained injuries in the incident.
The mysterious death of Mohammad Ashraf Bhat, 28, in Andhra Pradesh angered the residents of Sozeith-Narbal in Central Kashmir district of Budgam here this morning. The residents took to the highway connecting Srinagar with Gulmarg area and Baramulla district. The protesters raised slogans against the alleged murder of Ashraf and demanded action against the people involved in the incident.
The residents while holding protest demonstration against the death alleged that Ashraf has been killed and his death is not natural. The repeated request of the police personnel not to disrupt the traffic movement was not heeded to by the protesters. They resorted to heavy stone pelting on the police and CRPF personnel resulting into injuries to Station House Officer (SHO) of Parimpora police station.
The stone pelting led to ding-dong battles between the two sides and this led to complete chaos in the area and also on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway as well as Srinagar-Gulmarg road. Some of the vehicles also suffered minor damages during the stone pelting incident.
The protesters urged the Government to arrange for the airlifting of the body and alleged that the Government is deliberately delaying the process in order to cover up for the crime. The protesters said that the State Government should constitute a high level committee to probe the actual cause of Ashraf’s death.
