KATHUA, Apr 8: Station House Officer (SHO), Police Station, Rajbagh, Inspector, Manjit Singh and a SPO Rakesh Kumar were injured late last night after a party of bovine and narcotic smugglers in village Bhamberwan under the jurisdiction of Rajbagh Police Station in Kathua district attacked them and also tried to seize their weapons.
As per reports late last night a police team of Police Station, Rajbagh during routine checking in the border area along with a team of anti narcotics led by Sub Inspector, Vishal Kumar got an information about the narcotic smuggling in the area. They visited the house of a notorious person Abdul Majid alias Mian son of Noor Mohammed of the same village who is already involved in various criminal cases and as soon as police team reached there they were attacked by the family members of the narcotic and bovine smuggler and his goons. The attackers tried to snatch the weapons of the police team and also inflicted grievous injuries on the head of the SHO and SPO Rakesh Kumar who were both taken to Government Medical College and Hospital, Kathua for treatment.
The SHO got five stitches on his head while the SPO got nine stitches. The attackers fled from the spot later on and are absconding. This morning a police team also visited the area to arrest the culprits but all of them had fled from the area. The Kathua police has started a manhunt to arrest them and also registered case in this regard.
Confirming that the police team was attacked, SSP Kathua, Shalinder Mishra told Excelsior that a police team led by SHO Police Station, Rajbagh was on routine patrolling in the border area later last night and it got some information regarding involvement of a notorious criminal in smuggling of drugs. Police team on the basis of inputs tried to search the residence of the notorious person in the area who is already involved in various criminal cases.
He said as soon as police team reached near the House of the criminal they were attacked by the family members of the criminal and their supporters with the result the SHO Rajbagh and one SPO received grievous injuries. He said SHO was got five stitches while the SPO got nine stitches. The other cops also received minor injuries but the police lodged FIRs in two injury cases and weapon snatching only under Section 353 and 307 IPC.
He said both the cops were hospitalized during late night. SSP said that in the morning a police team under the supervision of a Magistrate raided the area to arrest the culprits but they had all escaped. The Police have launched a manhunt to arrest them and registered FIR against 10 persons in this regard.
He said in this tiny village, all people are good except the one or two families but the police is investigating the matter and they all will be behind the bars soon. He said by and large Kathua is peaceful and people are also cooperative there. This was a unique incident yesterday and police is probing it, he added.
