JAMMU, Apr 20:As Bhagwan Parshuram Jayanti was celebrated today with a religious fervour, grand Shobha Yatra was taken out in the city of temples by Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha Jammu.
The Shobha Yatra, which comprised of tableaux on the mythical character of Bhagwan Parshuram, passed through different bazaars of the city of temples amidst chanting of religious slogans and Bhajans.
Besides important dignitaries and distinguished personalities, people from all walks of life took part in the Shobha Yatra, which was received at different points enroute by various social and religious organizations as well as Muslims brethren.
The Yatra took off from the Parshuram Bhawan, Chankya Chowk, near Parade Ground and passed through Moti Bazaar, Pacca Danga, Link Road, Purani Mandi, City Chowk, Kanak Mandi, Rajinder Bazar, Raghunath Bazar, Shalamar Road and culminated at the starting point.
The Yatra comprised of various tableaux on the events associated with Bhagwan Parshuram, Lord Rama, Lord Shiva, Baba Jitto, Sant Sidheshwar, Dwarka Nath Shastri, Mata Champa Sharma and others. Idols of Bhagwan Parshuram and other Hindu Gods, installed on decorated and open vehicles, were part of the Shobha Yatra.
Earlier, in the morning, Puja of Mata Gyatri, Saraswati and Bhagwan Parshuram was performed according to Vedic and Sanatan rituals. MLC Ashok Khajuria, MLC Ramesh Arora, MLA Jammu East Rajesh Gupta, MLA Jammu West Sat Sharma and all office bearers of the Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha as well as president Ved Parkash Sharma took part in the Shobha Yatra and associated celebrations.
On the occasion of Bhagwan Shri Parshuram Jayanti, a grand function was also organized by Brahmin Sabha Arnia.
On the occasion, MLC Ashok Khajuria and former MLA Ashwani Sharma were honoured. The Sabha also honoured some outstanding students and exemplary personalities, who included Romesh Sharma, Major Ashish, Kamal Sajgotra and Pawan Sharma.
Earlier, a yagya was performed for the welfare of whole world while senior member of the advisory committee, Prakash Nath presented a formal welcome address.
Surinder Sharma and Pt Sunil Shastri conducted proceeding of the programme while Ganesh Dutt Sharma delivered a lecture on behalf of the Sabha.
The function concluded with vote of thanks by Rajesh Sharma.
Dogra Pujari Jyotish Shastri Sangh also celebrated Bhagwan Parshuram Jayanti by organizing a Bhagwat Puja and Havan at Durga Mandir, Talab Tillo Bohri, here today.
MLA Jammu-West, Sat Sharma CA was chief guest in the religious function, which was organized under the overall supervision of Rampal Shastri and other members of the Shastri Sangh. A langer was also organized on the occasion.
Reports from Ramnagar said that Parshuram Jayanti was also celebrated there by taking out an impressive Shobha Yatra, which passed through various bazaars of the town. A large number of people took part in the Shobha Yatra, which was organized by Pt Vinod Sharma, B B Raina and Pt Vishwamurti.
