Shopian militant killed in Rajouri

JAMMU, Aug 7: One of the militants killed in yesterday’s encounter at Thannamandi in Rajouri hailed from South Kashmir’s Shopian district while search operations were today launched at three more places.

Sources disclosed identity of slain militant as Rameez Ahmad Tantray son of Mohammad Yusuf Tantray, a resident of Jamnagri in Shopian district.
Tantray had crossed over to Pakistan in 2018 and was there for last four years after undergoing arms training. He infiltrated to this side along with associate and was on way to South Kashmir for terror activities when they were trapped at Upper Panghai in Thannamandi and got killed.
At least one more militant is reportedly at large in the area. Twice during the day today, firing took place at the forests. However, there were no casualties or injuries on either side.
Meanwhile, search operations were today carried out at Laman Nagar in Sunderbani, Chowki at Nowshera and Shahdara Sharief in Rajouri district by Army, CRPF and police after people said they have spotted movement of suspects.
However, no suspects were found during searches.
Meanwhile, security forces today recovered tooth paste like explosive at Ramsoo in Ramban district.
Security forces are already on alert after yesterday’s blast in Banihal in which no breakthrough has been achieved by police so far.
