JAMMU, Oct 1: Disappointed by the administration, several shopkeepers in Main Market Mandi area of Poonch District have now decided to construct a drain on their own.
As per details available with the Excelsior, a drain construction work spread over an area of approximately 1.5 km, which was part of a road macadamisation work, in Main Market Mandi was left out by the concerned contractor after he faced some payment related challenges.
For almost five years, the shopkeepers in the Mandi area ran from the pillar to the post to get the drain in their area constructed but their efforts went in vain.
Mukhtar ali, Mashooq Ahmed and several other shopkeepers said that after they felt completely ignored by the Administration as far as the construction of drain outside their shops was concerned, they took the challenged head-on and pooled the money to construct the drain on their own.
“Thus far, approximately 10-15 shopkeepers have constructed the drain outside their shops with the collected amount and in the days to come, the rest of work would also be completed if the administration fails to do the needful,” they said.
