JAMMU, June 29: At least four shops and carts were destroyed in a devastating fire at Purani Mandi area of the District, officials said.
They said on the intervening nights of Friday and Saturday, a fire erupted in a crockery shop at Purani Mandi area opposite Casino due to short-circuit in a pole.
The fire later spread to other shops and carts parked nearby.
Soon after getting the information, fire tenders were pressed into the service to control the flames but unfortunately goods worth several lakhs were completely destroyed in the fire before it was contained.
Meanwhile, police have started investigating the matter.
